Medication Management for Your Cancer
The average person undergoing treatments for cancer takes a multitude of medications at the same time. Some of these medications play a role in the treatment of cancer. Others help to ease cancer pain or treatment side effects. And still others help to control other conditions that have nothing to do with cancer.
At the Adventist Health AIS Cancer Center, we want to help streamline your cancer care and help you to stay healthy. Our cancer center pharmacy and our talented pharmacy team can help us do just that.
Expert Cancer Drug Advice
Your pharmacist will play a key role in the treatment of your cancer—and you'll have access to expertise other hospitals just can't match. Our pharmacist is the only community-based, board-certified oncology pharmacist in Kern County.
Our pharmacist is considered a cancer medication expert—up-to-date on the latest research concerning cancer therapy and treatment side effects. Your oncologist and your pharmacist will work together to choose the right medications to treat your cancer.
That in-depth knowledge can also help your pharmacist to ease the impact of cancer therapy. When chemotherapy treatments make you queasy, your pharmacist can prescribe the right anti-nausea medication to get you back on your feet. After you get that prescription, your pharmacist will call you to make sure you're feeling better too. Your pharmacist can also help you to deal with other common side effects, including anemia, depression and pain. Just call or stop by to see your pharmacist. As a patient of The AIS Cancer Center, you always have that expertise available to you.
Safety You Can Trust
If you're using chemotherapy to treat your cancer, our pharmacy technicians will prepare your doses for you. The chemotherapy team has access to high-efficiency equipment that can deliver accurate doses in totally sterile environments. That means your therapy will be prepared in the right way, and it will be safe for you to take.
Since the risk of medication interactions rises with every new drug you take, your pharmacist will be on alert for your health and safety. When you fill a prescription, we'll look through your medical records and make sure your therapies don't conflict. If your pharmacist spots a problem, a quick call to your doctor can resolve the issue and get you out the door with the safe medication you need.
Even herbal medications and over-the-counter medications can conflict with your cancer treatments. Your pharmacist can go over all of the vitamins, supplements and other drugs you're taking, and help you to head off problems before they start.
Your pharmacist can also help you develop a dosing schedule, so you'll know just what to take and at what time.
